FILM TERMINOLOGY

Film is very much like building a house. There´s technical issues - and checkpoints. Collaboration. That´s why we have stops like these under production. Here´s an introduction to a typical filmproduction.

STARTING UP

YOUR BRIEF

The film must solve a problem. The brief explains it to us like you understand it, and the most important issues is highlighted.

IDEA

The first task for us, is finding the gold. The great idea. We sketch out a concept for a great solution, and for how it should look and feel.

SCRIPT

The script represents what we hear and what we see in the finished product. The script is the blueprint. A definite description of your film.

SCRIPT APPROVAL

The script is scrutinized untill it´s approved by you. Because the script represents what we see and hear onscreen, it´s all got to be precise. Changes to the the script surfacing a lot later than here, can cause problems for your investment - and that´s why it´s important to be accurate at this point.

PRE-PRODUCTION

Preparation. Getting, bringing, deliveries, deals...we make them. We prepare all that´s necessecary before the shoot. We also prepare options for music and provide examples of everything, making the choices we need to make.

PRE-PRODUCTION - CASTING

We find the right actors for your film. Sølvsuper will audition them, and provide you with a selection of candidates that we think fit the bill. You make the final choice.

PRE-PRODUCTION - TESTING

Make up tests, costumes, set design and sound. It´s all tested and presented to our director. In this phaze it´s a lot of testing and adjusting, but that´s what it takes to make a great film.

THE SHOOT

The shoot is about making your film a reality and not being surprised by anything while we do it. It´s a day of focus, adjustments and maximizing the potential in each scene, without compromising the original idea.

POST-PRODUCTION

After the shoot is over, we have digital rawmaterial. They all contain one´s and zeroes - and they can all be adjusted. What happens after the shoot is the phaze we call postproduction.

OFFLINE

Offline is editing the film. The edit creates the sequencing of the shots and the timing of the film. An approved offline has no digital effects. It contains solely of the different shots we use and their lengths. The client must approve the offline before we move forward to the next step.

ONLINE

In online we adjust the image if it’s needed. Removal of wires, unwanted birds, adding more sun...stuff like that. Also here, you must approve the offline before we move forward to the next step.

SOUND DESIGN

The sound designer builds the soundscape for your film. All soundeffects and also sometimes dialogue is recorded and put in it´s place. The client also approves this step before the project moves closer to the finish line.

GRADING

Up until this point, the images looks as the day they were shot. But in grading we adjust the colors. It´s photoshopping for film, and gives your film a polished look with the right colortones that we intended for your film.

CROSSING THE FINISH LINE

PRESENTATION

We always meet over coffee and look at your film together, getting feedback and commenting on the finished product. The possibility for changes is still there, but is limited to how far back up this page you go. For instance, a completely new offline will demand a new online and grade. But animations, sound design and other tweaks are still possible to do.

MEASURING THE EFFECT

Did it solve your problem? Measuring the effect of the film is important to establish if we´ve done the job for you.

EVALUATION

Good collaboration means good communication. The overall process is discussed in the final meeting, where key learingpoints from our process together is shared and reflected upon. Next time we meet, we put these to good use.
